Claire Donovan writes our reviews and head-to-head comparisons. Her reviews are research-based rather than hands-on. She breaks each scanner down by specs, software and update terms, and vehicle coverage. Then she analyzes patterns across verified buyer reviews, return complaints, and expert video breakdowns to separate real strengths from marketing claims. In versus pieces, she compares tools only within the same price tier and names a clear winner for each type of buyer. If a product has a common failure point or a confusing subscription, you’ll find it in her review.
